A Cold Case is Reopened After Almost 30 Years

On June 26th, 1982, a fisherman discovered a man's body in the Snake River near Lewiston, Idaho. The man appeared to be between 18 and 22 years old and had bullet wounds in his neck and left shoulder from a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver manufactured before 1967. Nez Perce County Police believe the man was murdered but they were unable to identify him. The man was buried in an unmarked grave in a local cemetery and information about the finding of his body was posted on law enforcement databases nationwide, though authorities were never able to obtain an identity. Now almost 30 years later, law enforcement in Nez Perce County plan to send bone samples to the University of North Texas at Denton for DNA analysis. The university will submit the DNA profile to all available law enforcement databases and notify the sheriff's office of any possible matches.
